Gladue Aftercare Program

The Gladue Aftercare Program supports Indigenous individuals who are navigating the justice system by addressing the unique circumstances and challenges that may have contributed to their involvement.

Grounded in Gladue Principles and informed by Haudenosaunee Legal Traditions, the program focuses on healing, accountability, and long-term reintegration into the community.

Understanding Gladue Principles

Gladue Principles recognize that Indigenous peoples are disproportionately represented in the criminal justice system due to historical and ongoing impacts of colonization, residential schools, intergenerational trauma, and systemic barriers.

The Gladue Aftercare Program works to ensure these factors are understood and meaningfully considered while supporting individuals in building healthier and more stable paths forward.

Looking Ahead

The Gladue Aftercare Program continues to evolve in response to community needs.

Multiple Gladue-focused programs are currently in development, with the goal of expanding supports and improving outcomes for individuals and families within the Six Nations community.

Gladue Aftercare Support

The Gladue Aftercare Program is a client-led service that provides individualized support based on each person’s needs and circumstances.

Support may include:

  • Assisting clients in fulfilling Gladue Report recommendations
  • Supporting compliance with release conditions
  • Advocating for the client’s best interests
  • Connecting clients with community programs and resources
  • Supporting healthy reintegration into the community

The program focuses on helping individuals move forward in a way that supports accountability, healing, and long-term well-being.

A Community-Based Approach

Gladue Aftercare services are delivered with a strong emphasis on:

  • Cultural understanding
  • Respect and dignity
  • Community connection
  • Holistic and strengths-based support

The program recognizes that meaningful change happens when individuals are supported not only through legal processes but also through relationships, community, and access to appropriate services.
